Blighted Ovum(Anembryonic pregnancy)
Is a pregnancy in which the embryo failed to develop.
How to diagnose?Anembryonic pregnancy)
US imaging shows an empty gestational sac without a fetal pole.
Blighted Ovum(Anembryonic pregnancy) VS missed abortion
missed occurs after embryonic or fetal demise, meaning after a previously confirmed viable fetus present
Anembryonic pregnancy clinical presentaion
Parallel to threatened and missed mild pain ,bleeding, closed cervix,or asymptomatic.
Recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL)
A diagnosis made after 3 or more consecutive spontaneous losses of a pregnancy before 20 weeks gestation
*The diagnostic workup of couples with recurrent pregnancy loss may be initiated after 2 pregnancy losses
Recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL)
The workup includes:
- Karyotype of abortus specimen
- Karyotyping of couples
- The uterus(mullerian fusion abnormalities)
- Thyroid function, Infectious causes. (chlamydia ,listeria)

infectious causes for abortion
causes(Toxoplasma gondii, Listeria monocytogenes, herpes simplex, and
