Earth’s Atmosphere & Resources Flashcards
(5 cards)
Greenhouse gases
Gases in the atmosphere, such as carbon dioxide (CO₂), methane (CH₄), and water vapour (H₂O), that trap heat from the Sun and contribute to global warming
Carbon footprint
The total amount of greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere by a person, product, or activity over its lifetime
Sustainability
Using resources in a way that meets the needs of people today without damaging the ability of future generations to meet their needs
Potable water
Water that is safe to drink because it has low levels of dissolved salts and harmful microbes. It is not necessarily pure water (H₂O), but it is clean enough for humans to consume
Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)
used to assess the environmental impact of a product at different stages of its life, including raw material extraction, manufacturing, use, and disposal
