how shiny a rock or how dull it is or mineral looks when light shines on it like a mirror or glassy or even dull luster is a physical property used by the mineralogist to help identify minerals

how some minerals break a long smooth flat lines instead of randomly breaking an egg

where you try to scratch a rock with different objects like a finger nail or penny.
