ECM Flashcards
(10 cards)
IFs form polymers of 10nm diameter between what? microfilaments and microtubules
microfilaments and microtubules
IF Encoded in genome by how many?
70 different genes (5 families by sequence homology).
IF: Expressed in what kind of manner?
tissue specific manner.
Is IFs are polarized or not?
NOT polarized
structure of IF proteins
conserved rod domain, flanked by nonhelical N-and C-terminal domains. N and C domains different, so dimer is polarized.
IF: structure of Rod domain
roughly 310 amino acids, and is a-helical, coiled-coil structure
IF: a-helix in coiled-coil domain
characterized by heptad repeat sequence, with hydrophobic residues usually at positions 1 and 4. Helices of two proteins pack together, mediated by interactions between these hydrophobic side chains.
IF dimers associate with other dimers in what fashion?
in anti-parallel fashion, forming a tetramer.
4 roles of the basal lamina
- tissue organization into distict compartments
- tisseu function
- tissue repair
- cell migration
what is basal lamina made of?
- Type 4 collagen
- laminins
- perlecan
- nidogen(or entactin)
