What is ecocriticism?
a field literary study that considers the relationship that human beings have to the environment: literary analysis informed by ecological awareness.
When did ecocriticism emerge?
Mid 1990s
Most ecocritical work shares a common motivation:
humans impact the environment in various ways - might damage the planet’s life and/or its support systems.
Ecocritics view their intellectual work as
a direct intervention in current social, political, and economic debates surrounding the environment.
Ecocentric Perspectives

Protecting the earth from human destruction.

The process by which an object or person becomes a commodity.
