Ecology Flashcards
(12 cards)
How does pollination take place?
Done by insects, wind or water
What is pollination?
When pollen from one flower is moved to another so the plant can make seeds
What do scientists find out using sampling?
-Distribution (where)
-Abundance (number)
What is seed dispersal?
The way seeds are spread away from the parent plant
Why is seed dispersal helpful?
It helps plants grow in different areas and not all in one spot
Name 4 ways seeds can be spread:
1.wind
2.water
3.animals
4. Exploding from the plant
What is a quadrat?
Frames that people use to measure the abundance of organisms
What is a habitat?
The place or area where an animal lives
What is an identification key?
Tools that enables us to identify organisms based on characteristics
What is sampling?
Collecting observations on measurements from a small area representing a big area
What is prey?
An animal or organism that predators kill
What is a predator?
An animal that hunts and kills animals for food
