Ecology Flashcards
(38 cards)
Population
One species in an eco system
Individual
Any single organism
Biosphere
Regions of earth surface and atmosphere
Phototroph
Converts light into food
Biome
Region of the world
Community
All living things in an eco system
Ecology
The study of relationships between organisms and their physical environment and how they interact with each other
Ecologists
A scientist who studies organisms and their relationships between organisms and their physical environment and how organism survive in their environment
Niche
The role or function of an organism and its environment and an organism purpose
Ecosystem
A limited area in which living and nonliving things interact and then varmint and all the organisms that live there
Biotic factors
Is any living organism that affects another organism including animals that consume the organism in question and living for the offense organism living factors that influences an ecosystem
Abiotic factors
Nonliving factors that influence in ecosystem. They can include water, oxygen, soil radiation from the sun, weather temperature, atmosphere and available gases, wind, nature, disasters
Tolerance
Billy of organisms to withstand change in the environment each organism has a tolerance range of the factors
Optimum range
Environment which is the study for an organism survival
Limiting factor
A condition or factor which threatens an organism survival
Carrying capacity
Maximum number of organisms that and ecosystem can support
Biodiversity
The variety of life in the world or in a particular habitat or ecosystem and the number of the right kinds of species in an ecosystem
Biogeochemical cycles
Are nutnent cycles that recycle minerals and other nutrients back to the environment
Hydrologic cycle
Recycled water
Atmosphere cycles
Recycle nutrients found in gases
Sedimentary cycles
Recycle nutrients in soil and rocks
Levels of ecology
Biosphere biome community population organism
Atmosphere
Earth
Lithosphere
The rigid outer part of the earth consisting of crust and upper mantle
