what is the naive view of information ?
its an attempt to represent reality and if this successes it is called the truth
What is the populist view of inflation ?
believes that information is power and the truth can be adjusted
and the establishment adjust the truth too, bu they’re better at doing it
what is an economic example of information
truth: the US is the largest economy in the world
reality: US us the largest at market exchange rates, China is the largest in PPP
Information: US GDP us at 28 trillion in size
What is another example with China as an enemy?
Information: China is the ennemy
Reality: China has lifted many people out of poverty, and has become the largest trading economy and trading nation
Truth: depends who you ask – if you ask the US elite they will say China is the enemy
How does the naive view of information see information ?
They see info as an attempt to represent reality , but they do admit that not all info is reliaty, but they take it as misinformation (an honest mistake ) or disinformation— deliberate lie
What is the solution fo disinformation accoridng to the naive view?
That there needs to be more information to battle disinformation– this is also called the counter speech
what is the path of counter speech doctrine ?
Information- reality-truth
The example from the book about astrophysics and astrology?
Astrophysicist– derive info from the stars
astrologers- derive and disseminate misinformation,
but if everyone was given the same info, then astrologers would abandon and become astronomers
BUT this is not happening because astrophysics keeps getting developed and yet astrologers are still here, so this defies the naive view of information
the key factor is how many believe the idea or whatever
what is neoliberalism?
A policy model that encompasses both politics and economics and seeks to transfer the control of economic factors from the public to the private sector
what is the view of neoliberalism from the perspective of the west ?
open your economy to trade
remove portectio for workers and wider population
privatize all state owned enterprises
run balance budget
create stock markets
what are some key aspects of the Washington consensus ?
Reduce national budget deficit
Redirect money towards neglect industries with high economic returns
reform tax system
liberalise financial sector
adopt a competitive single exchange rate
reduce trade restrictions
abolish barriers to foreign direct investment
private state owned enterprises
abolish policies that restrict competition
provide secure affordable property rights
just information about astrology
astrology= not based on scinetific evidence but greatly impacted history same thing with neoloberalism
denying the role of astrology would be inaccurate

Chile was the first neoliberal state,
Korea: even though they had US troops there, they took a very much non neoliberal path and their GDP is better now
what is wrong with the naive view of information ?
it’s that errors, lies and fictions are also information which contradicts that fact that information has no link to the truth
it has more links to errors, lies, propaganda

it’s to create new realities by weaving together disparate things
a defining feature is connection rather than representation
Does information actually inform us?
NO, it just arranges things for us
What in an example of info not being real with DNA?
DNA is an arrnagment of info in some way, something that creates a new reality
