What was Brezhnevs main goal?
To revert back to the stalinist status quo. (No more 7 yr plans, reunited party)
What were the kyosigin reforms?
They were a capitalist idea that took funding away from failing farms and invested them into the factories that were successful
When and why were the kyosigin reforms stopped?
Cancelled in ‘68 after Czech rebellions
What was Brezhnevs military spending policy?
He increased spending from 11 to 13 percent after the Cuban missile crisis, he wanted to achieve nuclear parity w/ USA. He did this in 1970
What was Brezhnevs new idea instead of communism by 1970
Developed socialism
What was developed socialism? And how did Brezhnev find it?
Low food prices via importing from the west to increase living standards. He did this by farming more oil and selling it as the prices had gone up massively
What was Brezhnevs policy on black market?
He regarded it as a necessary evil as it allowed him to increase living standards. It became known as the second economy. Although it showed the failings of communism.
What were the andropov reforms?
To improve labour discipline via:
1) nov ‘82 anti corruption campaign where nikolai shekov was expelled
2) anti alcohol campaign
3) anti-drunk and anti-absentee campaign
Why did andropovs reforms fail?
Booze went underground (andropovka) and the KGB didn’t focus much on anti absenteeism
What were the statistics of Brezhnevs stagnation economy compared to earlier?
‘50-‘58 USSR econ was growing at 7.1% per year. Now it was around 2%. This was due to extensive growth over intrinsic

Extensive is more factories and shops. Intrinsic is more quality and efficieny
