Ecosystem Flashcards
(22 cards)
Example of a small scale ecosystem ?
Pond ; woodland
What’s a consumer ?
A thing that eats
• fox
• bird
• bear
Example of a producer ?
Plants
Threats to the ecosystem ?
Natural and human changes •weather •plants dry out and dry •fertilisers •draining of ponds •cutting down on trees
Tropical rainforest is ?
A biome
Example of a biome ?
Desert
Climate in a desert ?
Dry , sandy and little rainfall
Climate in a Deciduous Forest ?
Mainly found in the uk , rainfall anytime throughout the year
Climate in a tropical rainforest ?
Rainfall everyday , intense sunlight , HOT and humid
The tallest layer of the rainforest ?
Emergent later
Two characteristics of rainforest vegetation ?
Very dense and trees are high (adaptation)
How do solis and plants depend on each other in a tropical rainforest?
By the soil providing nutrients for the plants to grow . But the soil gets its nutrients from the plants i.e. Leaves fallen from the ground
Where are tropical rainforests found ?
Around the equator
How can human development reduce biodiversity in rainforests ?
Stop the cycle of nutrients, no habitats for animals
One positive thing of deforestation ?
Brings income , money
Two causes of deforestation?
Cutting down forests , cattle grazing or mining for minerals
Environmental impacts of deforestation?
Oxygen levels decreasing , biodiversity can reduce
How to protect tropical rainforests ?
Selective logging
What’s international agreements ?
Allows trees to grow at their full growth before they are cut down
Causes of deforestation?
- cattle ranching
- logging
- mining
- roads
- farming
Why is deforestation happening?
To make people money
Impacts of deforestation?
Less oxygen
Habitats destroyed
Less evaporation
