Schools select children based on ability. Like in the past Tripartite system introduced by conservative government grammar technical secondary modern marvels children went to different schools depending on their ability which was determined by 11 plus test. Now forbidden in state fined schools they must comply with Admission polices to stop selection by ability or discrimination against pupils due to social or economic backgrounds. Stops discrimination make equal opportunities in education as stops them from having barrier to even appling in first place. Specialistes schools may pick children by talent or ability in a particular subject. Faith schools pick children based on religion the family practices.

Parents can imply their child to any schools if they are undersubscribed they have to accept the child’s popular schools become oversubscribed quickly in this case schools prioritize children with pupil premium and children who already have siblings at the school.

A

Introduced in 90 and 80s to address the issues of students not living the education system with good enough qualifications. Schools become independent self governing instructions compete for students not managed by the state. Neoliberal idea that the value of education is determined by where it put us in the global marketplace can onlybe achieved if schools are more like businesses. Favour marketisation if education approach first by Chubbs and Moe economic approach suggest school resources better managed when run by businesses. Now accepted by main political parties. Marketisation created Completion (Compete for students), choice (Parent shad moor choose schools that fitted their needs), Independence (Schools controlled own affairs)
League tables- Completion between schools allowed parent. To rank them based on preference
National testing, national curriculum- Create comparable results

A

Marketisation lead to parentocracy the school a child when to depends on the parents’ wishes rather than the child’s ability. For example more affluent parents can afford to pay for education move house to get into most popular schools.

Privatization-

A

Transfer of public assets like schools to private companies. Become a source of capitalism allowing schools to improve their facilities. Cola-isation is a form or privatization this is when privet company’s enter the education system directly on the schools premises through display of brand long or vending machines showing loyalty and sponsrships.
Marketisation is a form of Endogenous privatization as its with in the education system making them compete for student sand increasing choice.
Endogenous in privation outside the education system like the running of exam boards.
+ Greater choice for parents, companies and schools work together they will invest to ensure that students leave well qualified for employment, increase academic success will be prioritized in order to ensure profit.
-No guarantee that profit is going back into the schools. Possible bankruptcy in the company that are funding the school. The best schools already made better the others are left.

Globalization-

Increased interconnectedness between countries, less contained and more independent. Boundaries between countries less signific easy access to transport like planes. Idea and cultures move around the work glob more common.

Lead to a world wide trend of privatization and marketization with in the education system. PISA is a large scale international study that provides data on student performance in reading, mathematics, and science so they can be compared.

-PISA only looks at 3 subjects don’t mean education student receiving is better or sore can be damaging and wasteful efforts focusing polices of this ore complex factor in society that have an influence.
+ Provie policy marker see what is working and what isn’t, see if money is being spent in the right way to improve the education system.
