A
- state education was introduced in the UK
- free compulsory education for most children aged 5-11
- minimal charging
- no longer in action, now is the bursary fund

A
- £30 a week
- bursary to help with education related costs
- aimed to encourage children to stay in further education for longer

- additional funding for publicly funded schools in England
- designed to help disadvantaged pupils of all abilities perform better, and close the hap between them and their peers

Assisted places scheme

- children who were academically eligible were provided with free or subsided places to fee paying independent schools 1980-1997
