Q

Why does it have high control over extraneous variables?

A

In previous studies, orphans has often experienced trauma, neglect, abuse or bereavement and it was difficult to tell if any long term effects had been due to that or being institutionalised. In Rutter’s many had been handed over by loving parents meaning it was possible to study them without these confounding variables

Q

What different confounding variables may have been introduced?

A

The quality of care in these institutions was extremely poor, with children receiving very little intellectual stimulation or comfort meaning the harmful effects may be due to the poor care
