What were the conditions of farmers?

A

The conditions of the farmers deteriorated and were forced to sell their lands off due to excess revenue policies and regular famines. The zamindars were no bothered to improve their land conditions. There were frequent agrarian riots. Thus, Land became a commodity that could be mortgaged, sold or bought. The peasants took loans to meet the revenue demands so they were forced to mortgaged their lands. The rate of interest was very high so they had to sell their lands to rich farmers or money lenders.
