Q

How is smoking creates fetal hypoxia

A
  • Mothers taking in less oxygen
  • Vasoconstriction causes constricted blood vessels which equals less blood in the placenta which equals less oxygen to the fetus
  • carbon monoxide pushes O2 out
  • less blood in the uterus means less medium to transport nutrients
  • cigarettes contain added chemicals which cause lesions on placenta
  • hemoglobin will attach to extra CO2 in the blood which will cross the placenta to the baby
  • uterus considered non essential. Under oxygenated when constricted
  • poorly developed placenta
