Elbow Flashcards
(23 cards)
What glide is used to improve Elbow flexion? what position?
Humeroradial Joint
Anteior glide (prone)
What glide is used to improve Elbow extension? position?
Humeroradial Joint
Posterior glide (supine)
What other manual therapy technique can be used to improve elbow FLX & EXT? position ?
HumeroUlnar distraction
(supine)
What glide is used to improve supination? position?
Anterior PRUJ glide (prone)
What glide is used to improve pronation? position?
Posterior PRUJ glide (supine)
What to do BEFORE doing special tests for Lateral and medial epicondylagia?
Rule out cervical radicular pain (Distraction, spurlings, neurodynamic testing & cervical AROM).
What are 4 special tests for Lateral epicondylagia?
Cozens, Mills, third finger test, palpation?
How to perform Cozens test? what’s it for?
For Lateral epicondylagia:
* Therapist places their thumb over the lateral epicondyle
* Place the elbow in full extension, pronated fist, make a fist, wrist into extension, radial deviation of fist.
* resist force while PT pushes into wrist flexion.
How to perform Mills Test? what’s it used for ?
Lateral epicondyalgia:
* Place the shoulder in 70 degrees of abduction and the elbow at 90 degrees of flexion
* Place the involved thumb inside the fist
* Flex and ulnarly deviate the involved wrist
* Slowly extend the elbow looking for pain reproduction at the lateral epicondyle region.
How to perform third finger test? what’s it used for?
Lateral epicondyalgia:
All fingers in full extention, apply downward force of third finger into flexion.
Special tests for medial epicondyalgia?
passive wrist and elbow extension
Painful resisted wrist flexion
What nerve is involved with cubital tunnel syndrome?
Ulnar nerve
What are special tests for cubital tunnel syndrome?
Frontmens sign
Tinnels sign
Wartenbergs sign
How to do frontments sign test? what’s it for?
Cubital tunnel syndrome:
Have patient press on paper using digits one and two
(+) test is if thumb flexes at dip
How to do tinnels sign? what for?
cubital tunnel syndrome: tap 4-6 times at cubital tunnel
How to do wartenbergs sign? what for
Cubital tunnel syndrome:
passively abducted all fingers on a table, then ask them to bring all fingers back together (adducted)
If pinky stays out (+)
Whats the special tests for the median nerve?
pronator teres test &
Ain pinch grip test
How to do the pronator teres test? what’s it used for?
Median nerve damage: Flex the elbow to 90°
* Passively pronate the forearm at the wrist
* Apply a resistance in to supination to activate the pronator muscle
* Have the patient continue to resist as the therapist proceeds to extend the elbow fully
* Assess for reproduction of symptoms in the pronator teres region
How to do the AIN pinch grip test? what’s it for ?
Anterior interosseous nerve: have patient make an okay sign with there thumb and 2nd digit if they cant or its flat its (+)
What are the two tests for biceps tendon rupture?
Hook test and biceps squeeze test
How to do the biceps squeeze test? position?
seated, have hand in neutral to slightly pronated, looking for supination with squeeze.
How to test UCL of elbow?
Valgus stress test
How to test LCL of elbow?
Varus stress test
