Free and fair elections
The process used to elect representatives to the common wealth parliament in order to make it fair, reliable and encourage participation.
Principle: free
All can vote without pressure, threats or restrictions. Government encourages citizens to vote.
Fair
All candidates have equal opportunity to promote themself.
Votes counted accurately with no bias.
Competitive
Few restrictions on who can run for election.
Voters can choose between multiple candidates.

How is government formed
the party or coalition that controls an absolute majority of seats in the HoR.
Hung Parliament
When no party or coalition has the majority of seats causing major parties to need to gain support from minor parties and independents.

propose alternative policies and challenges the government. Scrutinises the government and everything they do.
the cross bench
represents local or narrow views, decide the outcome when both opposition and government disagree with each other.

proposes laws and changes to existing laws
decides how to allocate public recourses and manage the economy.
