Electric Circuits Flashcards
(9 cards)
What is the equation for power?
P = I x V Power = Current x Voltage (W) = (A) x (V)
What is the equation for energy transferred by an appliance?
E = I x V x t
Energy Transferred = Current x Voltage x Time
(J) = (A) x (V) x (s)
What is the equation for resistance?
R = V / I Resistance = Voltage / Current (Ohms) = (V) / (A)
What is current?
The rate of flow of charge.
What is electric current in solid metallic conductors?
A flow of negatively charged electrons.
What is the rule for voltage in a parallel circuit?
V1 = V2 = V3
What is voltage?
The energy transferred per unit charge.
What is the relationship between current and voltage in a wire at a fixed temperature?
Current is proportional to voltage.
What is the relationship between current and voltage in a metal filament lamp?
A curved graph. As potential difference increases, the current increases, therefore the temperature of the lamp increases. As temperature increases, resistance increases, so current decreases.
