- Away from positve particles, towards negative particles
- Lines are always at right-angles to the surface of the particle

How does air get ionised?
A
- If the charge of an object is strong enough, it can cause air particles to lose electrons and become positive ions. This means that it can now conduct electricity and can result in sparks
