Electric fields definitions Flashcards
(7 cards)
Electric field
A region of space in which a small, positively charged particle will experience a force.
Electric field lines
Imaginary visualisations of the region of influence of an electric field.
Electric field strength
The force-to-charge ratio for a charged particle experiencing a force due to an electric field
Potential
A measure of a possible field energy in a given location within that field. Electric potential difference is the energy per unit charge at that location
Potential difference
The change in potential between two locations in a given field
Equipotentials
Positions within a field with zero p.d. between them
Coulomb’s Law
F = (1 x Q1 x Q2) / (4 x pi x epsilon0 x r^2)
OR F = (K Q1 Q2) / r^2
SINCE K = 1 / 4 x pi x epsilon 0
