Electrical Flashcards
(57 cards)
Purpose of battery disconnect?
Will prevent slow discharge of the battery group when unit is parked.
Purpose of circuit protection devices?
Used to protect a machines electrical circuits from large current flows. Main circuits are around 60-80 watts
Type 1 circuit breaker?
Used when flow must be restored quickly. Opens and closes when a bi metal strip heats and cools opening the contacts
Type 2 circuit breaker?
Uses a heat producing resistor and holds the contacts open while the breaker rating is exceeded
Type 3 circuit breaker?
Non cycling and has a manual reset button. Used in non critical circuits
Sizing circuit protection
Lights —> amps x 1.2
Engine —> amps x 1.5
Higher beams produce what wattage?
80 watts
Low beams produce what wattage?
60 watts
Door switches are in what condition normally?
Normally closed
Limiting factors of a motor armature speed?
Counter-electromagnetic forces (CEMFs)
Windshield wiper motors are what kind of motor?
2 speed dc
2 types of anti theft systems?
Alarm system, theft deterrent
Temperature gauge circuits use what kind of thermistor?
Negative temperature coefficient
Equipment lighting circuits are used to provide illumination for?
Vision during night
Unit appearance
Unit/operator safety
Operator convenience
The intensity of a instrument panel can be controlled by?
Series connected rheostat
Pulse width modulated signal
Multiplexing reduces the amount of wires by how much?
40%
What is multiplexing?
The ability to send and receive digital electronic signals over a pair of wires
3 multiplexing network and protocols?
J1587/J1708
J1939/CAN
ISO11783/CAN
What is baud rate?
The speed of the data transfer over a network
What is backbone?
Networks method of connection, such as wires or fibre optic cable. Most common in heavy duty equipment is a twisted pair that is shielded with a copper wire to prevent emi
What is a stub?
Is a segment of data link that branches off the back bone and connects to each node. A stub can be a max of 1 metre. Also referred to as a branch.
What is a node?
Computer or other device that has a unique network address
What Is a terminating resistor?
Is placed at each end of the data link to reduce electrical interference on the data link
What is standing waves?
Electrical reflections or waves that can cause major problems with module communication
