Q

What do you do if the Control CB trips when you push the remote pantograph RAISE button?

A

Raise Pantographs manually by using local Panto EP button on each car.

Submit TMM

17
Q

What do you do if the Control CB trips when you push the remote pantograph LOWER button?

A

Reset the Control CB

Electrically isolate the pantograph EP valve

Press remote pantograph lower button

… if the CB remains set, the fault is in the EP valve. Manually lower and isolate the pants (electrically and pneumatically) and submit TMM

18
Q

What happens if the Control CB trips in the trailing MC?

A

You have to go and reset it because you will get FDCL and will not be able to power.

19
Q

What are the other things in the trailing MC that can give you FDCL?

A

Control CB

Aux. CB

Marker lights wrong position

Second BVICS open

20
Q

What equipment, if defective, may cause the Control CB to trip?

A

Master Controller

Train Cable

Reverser equipment

Traction power control equipment

Rheo brake demand circuit

… on any MC in the consist

21
Q

What is the probable cause if the Control CB trips with:
- MCH 0
- Reverser OFF
- Panto RAISE/LOWER not pressed
- BCH in RELEASE

i.e. just arrived at cab

A

A short circuit between the Control CB and Reverser/ (MCH)

EXAM!!

22
Q

In this instance, what can the driver do?

A

You need a CE to power train from another MCH

You need a train to assist you clear of the line

23
Q

What is the probable cause if the Control CB trips with:
- MCH 0
- Reverser FORWARD, NEUTRAL,
- EP CB set
- BCH in 1-7

i.e. as soon as reverser moved from OFF

A

Rheo and EP brake energised (even if stationary) so …

Short circuit on electric brake demand wire in Train Cable

Fault in Rheo brake control equipment on any MC

24
Q

What can you do to rectify?

A

Step 1

Isolate Rheo via Rheo isolating switch
- attempt to reset Control CB
- if still won’t set

Step 2

Trip EP CB to remove electric brake demand from the whole train

25
Q

What does the Train Cable do?

A

Carries 110vDC for various train lined circuits and equipment.

26
Q

If Control CB trips what happens to Remote Pantograph UP button?

A

Panto’s cannot be remotely raised

27
Q

If Control CB trips what happens to Remote Pantograph DOWN button?

A

Panto’s cannot be remotely lowered

28
Q

If Control CB trips what happens to Overload Reset?

A

Overloads cannot be reset

29
Q

If Control CB trips what happens to Master Controller?

A

Cannot supply traction power in one or all powering positions

30
Q

If Control CB trips what happens to Rheostatic Brake?

A

Failure of the Rheostatic brake

31
Q

If Auxiliary Control CB trips what is affected?

A

Bell will not operate

Aux. start button will not remotely start MAs

Doors will remain in whatever position they are in

Saloon Lights will remain in the state they were in

Couple and Uncouple buttons

Air Con

Self-centering device on Scharfenberg coupler

32
Q

What do the MAs do?

A

Convert 1500vDC into 415vAC for BATH, and supplies 110vDC supply

33
Q

How many MAs are needed to operate a train?

A

One - in a degraded mode

34
Q

If one MA fails what is the result?

A

Half saloon lighting in each car

Half AC in each car

Half cab lighting and heating

Local Rheo brake where MA has failed will be inoperative

35
Q

What happens if an MA overspeed?

A

You have to inspect and reset it.

Only on a GEC MA (WestCode)

Not of high importance and should only be inspected in a Siding environment.

36
Q

How many DC Supply CBs need to be set for the train to run.

A

Only one out of 4 and the train will run fine.

37
Q

What do you do if the Control CB trips with MCH in 1-4?

A

Establish if you can drive in certain notches

Power in lower notch.

38
Q

What do you do if the Control CB trips when MCH just in notch 1?

A

Motors to ALL OUT

Reset CB try for power

39
Q

How do you isolate a pantograph?

A

Push the PANTO LOWER EP VALVE

Turn the PANTOGRAPH EP Isolating Cock in van area cabinet

Isolate the PANTOGRAPH ELECTRIC TOGGLE SWITCH

Turn Motors to ALL OUT
