Electricity Flashcards
(22 cards)
What are electrical conductors and insulators?
Conductors - material that easily allows electrical charge through it
Insulators - one that doesn’t
What is a static charge?
An electric charge that cannot move
How is a charge formed?
Certain insulators are rubbed together, causing negatively charged electrons to move from one object to another.
Why does a charged rid attract neutral paper?
- electrons in paper repelled from rod
- makes one side positively charged and the other negatively
- positive side attracted to negative rod
How are field lines drawn?
At right angles to object’s surface
Direction of lines shows the way the force acts on a positive charge
What does density of field lines indicate?
Strength of field
How are arrows represented on positively charged object?
Going outwards
How are arrows represented on negatively charged object?
Going inwards
Diva look at your book for field lines 🙏
Pretty please
Define electricity
The flow of charge around a complete circuit
What is the symbol for a filament light bulb
A circle with an x on it
What is the symbol for an ammeter
A circle with an A on it
What is the symbol for a voltmeter?
A circle with a V on it
Look at your book for book for cell and battery symbols do you get it?
Lelellee
Rules for circuit diagram drawing?
Straight lines with ruler
No gaps
No components on corners
What is charge?
A property of all objects with mass
Can be quantified and measured in coulombs (C)
What is the charge of an electron?
- 1.6 x 10^-19
What is the charge of a proton?
+ 1.6 x 10^-19
What actually moves around a circuit?
Free electrons or coulombs
What is current and how is it measured?
Symbol is I
Rate of flow of charge
Measured in amperes/amps (A)
1 amp = one coulomb of charge passing a point each second
Measured with an ammeter connected in series
Where does current flow?
Flows from positive terminal to negative terminal
How does current work in components in parallel
Current entering a junction is equal to the current leaving a junction
