Electricity Flashcards

What happens to internal energy when changing state?
When a substance increases in temperature but does not change state, only kinetic energy of particles increases. When a substance changes state but does not change temperature, only potential energy of particles changes, depending on state change.
What is internal energy?
Sum of all kinetic and potential energies of particles in a system.
How does pressure and temperature of a gas relate to particle motion?
Pressure is caused by particles colliding with container walls. Increasing temperature increases kinetic energy of particles, colliding with container walls with greater force and more frequently, resulting in increased pressure.
What does radiation contamination mean?
Radioactive materials cause hazard depending on radiation type emitted.
What does radiation irradiated mean?
Materials exposed to radiation, hazard depends on radiation type and distance from source.
