Electricity Flashcards
(13 cards)
What is a series circuit?
A circuit that has one pathway where electricity can flow through.
What is a parallel circuit?
A circuit where there are 2 or more branches where electricity can divide and flow through.
What is the colour of a live wire?
Brown
What is the colour of a neutral wire?
Blue
What is the colour of an earth wire?
Yellow and Green
What is an advantage of a series circuit?
It is cheap and easy to set up
What is a disadvantage of a series circuit?
When one component breaks, the entire circuit breaks because the voltage of shared.
What is an advantage of parallel circuit?
When one component breaks, the other branches in the circuit still works.
Globes are also brighter and the voltage supply is equal.
What is a disadvantage of a parallel circuit?
Harder and more expensive to set up.
What is an electric current?
Where electricity flows through
What is a conductor?
Where electric current passes through them
How does a fuse work?
A fuse works by having a metal of high resistance and low melting point.
How does an RCD (or safety switch) work?
Modern homes usually have a switchboard on their lighting and power circuits which monitors how much current is flowing through them
