Electricity and Magnetism Flashcards
Which magnetic pole is in Antarctica? How do you know?
Antarctica is in the south and so the magnetic North Pole is in Antarctica.
Why are Christmas tree lights connected in parallel and not in series?
So that when one light bulb goes out, the others stay on.
Describe the difference between Voltage and Current.
Current is the rate at which the electric charge flows past a point in a circuit.
Voltage is the potential difference in charge between two points in an electrical field.
What is Ohm’s law?
The potential difference is directly proportional to the current flowing through it.
V=IR
What is the difference between a conductor and an insulator? Examples?
Conductor conducts electrical current very well because of their free electrons. Copper, gold, aluminum, silver
Insulator impedes electrical current. Glass, wood, plastic, rubber, air.
