Electrolysis Flashcards

1
Q

Rules for electroylsis in aqueous solutions?

A

If the metal present is more reactive then hydrogen, hydrogen will be displaced
If at the anode if a halide is not present it will discharge the OH- ions
the OH ions will become oxygen and water

Q

What is electroylsis?

A

The passing of an electric current through ionic substances that are molten or in solution to break them down into elements, they either become oxidised or reduce to create them
