Na+/K+ pump

A
  • Antiport System
  • Sodium is pumped out as ATP is converted to ADP (released) and P (held by pump), Potassium is attracted to open gate and is moved inside the cell as P is released
  • 1 ATP : 3 Na+ out : 2 K+ in = electrical potential (electrogenic) - inside is more negative than the outside
  • Requires Na+, K+, and Mg to use ATPase as the transporter protein
  • Found in almost all mammalian cells
