Moves the plot along, can add excitement. All stories need friction and opposition to move the events

Flat character
Little description of character, usually a minor character, no growth
Round character
A more realistic character. Usually the protagonist or antagonist
Static character
A character that does not change throughout the story
Dynamic character
A character that does through big changes in the story
Stock character
A stereo typical character
E.g., evil witch, evil step sister
Dialogue
The characters in the story talking
Point of view
Perspective from which the story is told
Omniscient
All knowing, all seeing narrator who lets us look inside their brain of more than one character
Limited omniscient
Narrator who knows the thoughts and feelings of only one character
Objective
Narrator records events. Never gets to look inside characters brain or heart
1st person
The story uses “I”
2nd person
The story uses “you”
3rd person
Narrator telling using names
Irony
An unusual twist
Opposite of what was expected
Dramatic
You know something the main character doesn’t know
Satire
Ridiculing a subject, idea, making fun of a serous topic
