A

37 preachers was a small amount of people. All of these preachers were fired from the jobs, preventing them from teaching their radical Protestantism.
Surplice argument only divided the Puritans as many thought it was not a strong enough argument due to the Catholic threat

A

Strickland wanted to abolish the use of surplice, rings in marriage, and kneeling at communion.

Evaluate the success of the Strickland’s Bill

A

There was some support for the bill, furthermore, Strickland being in a position of power meant that he could of showed signs of a successful bill.
However, the support achieved was not from high authority, so could not be pushed further.
However, Strickland returned after he was barred from the house, due to the outcry from fellow MPs. Indicating that Strickland was popular amongst his peers.

How was the Strickland’s bill a failure?

A

Privy Council though Strickland was undermining the Queen as being Supreme Governor of the Church. He was brought the council to answer for the accusations. He was later barred from the house and the bill was never heard of again.

A

Cope and 4 others were sent to the Tower, after the Queen read the Genevan prayer book. The Government attacked the bill in Parliament as it called for the return of monastic lands in order to fund for the new church.
