  • 8 marks, 10 mins
  • knowledge only, no provenance
  • 2 or 3 paras:
  • 2x evaluate one way in which it’s convincing; use own knowledge to support
  • then conclusion to explain how convincing overall
  • don’t need to find ways it’s less convincing unless not in line w own knowledge

how do you answer q2 (explain what was important about…)?

A
  • 8 marks, 10 mins
  • 2 or 3 paras
  • 2x explain one way/reason why it was important & use ‘because’ w own knowledge - look at whether it caused change, was a threat etc
  • include how important it was depending on how much it’s changed or influenced things
  • 3rd short para: explain importance for wider context of Elizabethan England for level 4

how do you answer q3 (write an account of…)?

A
  • 8 marks, 10 mins
  • 2 paras, 1 explanation per para
  • find key word in q e.g. ‘favour’, ‘change’, ‘impacted’: they’re obsessed about the key word, so use it all the time; use word ‘because’ as much as possible
  • explain chronologically but remember to focus on key word; don’t just explain what happened

how do you answer q4 (HH question)?

A
  • 16 marks, 20 mins
  • need to explain ‘how far’ you agree w statement
  • use detailed specific knowledge to support explanations; focus on positives, not negatives
  • 5 paras: intro (state judgement & introduce additional factors), factor in q, then 2 additional factors, conclusion
  • use word ‘because’ as many times as possible
  • make links to show how one led to the other for level 4; support this with evidence, don’t just state it
  • explained judgement needed for level 4
