Q

Explain the interaction between MTA, MDA, and MUA.

A

Mail Transfer Agent - Delivers messages between hosts. Sometimes a client can act as an MTA for outbound, but aren’t true MTA cause can’t fully deliver message to specified inbox.
Mail Delivery Agent - Invoked by MTA to deliver incoming mail to proper inbox. Basically can be anything that touches a message before its viewable by user. So an MTA can act as an MDA if putting a message in a spool file.
Mail User Agent - End user client, Thunderbird, gmail webapp. Only one with a real user interface.
