Embryology Flashcards
(38 cards)
What does the paraxial mesoderm form?
Somite
What does the intermediate plate mesoderm form?
Urogenital system
What does the Lateral plate mesoderm form?
Body cavity and coverings (peritoneum)
How is the kidney peritonised?
Retroperitoneal
What is an Allantois?
An out pouching of endoderm at the hindgut that extends into the body stalk
What does the body stalk form?
Umbilical cord
What does the Cloaca divide into?
Rectum and Urogenital sinus
What does the Urogenital sinus divide into?
Bladder and Urethra (at caudal end)
What is the Median umbilical ligament?
Remnant of the Allantois
What supplies the bladder?
The Superior Vesical Artery (Umbilical Artery)
What drains into the urogenital sinus?
Mesonephric duct
What is the process called during Kidney formation?
Nephrogenesis
What happens during week 4?
The intermediate mesoderm in the neck region of embryo becomes the pronephros
What is the pronephros?
Pronephric duct + rudimentary pronephric tubules
What drains into the Cloaca?
Pronephric duct
What happens to the pronephros?
Degenerates by Week 5 except the pronephric duct
What happens to the Intermediate mesoderm in the trunk region?
Becomes the Mesonephros
When does the Mesonephros develop
Late Week 4
What becomes the Mesonephric duct?
The pronephric duct
What drains into the Mesonephric duct?
The Mesonephric tubules
What does the Mesonephros do?
Functions as a Kidney for 4 weeks
When does the Metanephros start to function?
Week 9
What does a Metanephros consist of?
- A ureteric bud that develops off the mesonephric duct
- Metanephric mesoderm (most caudal part of the intermediate mesoderm)
What does the Mesonephric tubules become?
The Rete Testis
