Embryology of the eye Flashcards
(14 cards)
What are the stages of eye development
Neural Tube => Optic Vesicles=> Optic Vesicles and Lens Placode=>Optic Cup
Where do the optic Vesicles grow from
They grow outwards from the DIENCEPHALIC part of the NEURAL TUBE
What happens to the surface ectodem once the optic vesicles reach it
they thicken and form the LENS PLACODE
How does the Optic Cup form
Invagination of Lens Placode and Optic Vesicle
How many layers does the Optic Cup have
2 - inner + outer
What happens to the optic Vesicle
Loses its connection with the surface of Ectoderm
As the optic cup forms what is the opening blood vessels transverse called
Choroid Fissure
What usually happens to the Choroid fissure
It dissapears
What happens if the Choroid Fissure persists
Forms a Coloboma - a gap in the retina, iris or disc
What does the outer layer of the Optic Cup become
Pigment layer of Retina and Iris
What does the inner layer of the Optic Cup become
Nerual Layer of Retina
Ciliary Body
Inner layer fo Iris
What parts of the eye are formed from the Surface Ectoderm
Eyelids
Conjunctiva
Corneal Epithelium
What parts of the eye are formed from the Mesenchyme
Choroid
Stroma of Cornea
Sclera
Extraocular Muscles
What are Lens Fibres formed from
Epithelium of Lens Vesicle
