Flashcards in Emergencies Deck (21):
1

Hot or Hung Start, No light up

1. Fuel lever off
2. Starter run for 30 sec
3. Ignition off
4. Starter limitations observe

*memory

2

Low Oil Pressure after Start

If Oil Press less than 40 PSI after Start:

1. Fuel off
2. Complete engine shutdown checklist

*memory

3

Generator not online after Start

Possible RCR Failure (starter may still be powered)

1. Fuel lever off
2. Master off
3. Complete engine shut down checklist

*memory

4

Engine Fire on Water

If able proceed to dock or shore, don life jackets, stop a/c considering wind direction.

1. Power lever idle
2. Prop lever feather
3. Fuel lever off
4. Fuel emergency fuel off
5. Ignition off
6. Boost pump off
7. P3 Heater off
8. Communicate (mayday/pax)
9. Sat tracker/ELT
10. Master off
11. Fire Extinguisher
12. Evacuate

*memory

5

Engine Fire in Flight (contained in exhaust stack)

1. Reduce power to control flame/ITT
2. Land as soon as practical
3. Complete Engine Fire on water checklist

*memory

6

Engine Fire in Flight (uncontained)

Lower nose immediately to attain 100 mph, find a suitable landing area.

1. Power idle
2. Prop feather
3. Fuel lever off
4. Fuel emergency off
*memory
5. Ignition off
6. Boost Pump off
7. P3 Heat off
8. Communicate (mayday/pax)
9. Sat tracker/ELT
10. Master switch off
11. Fire extinguisher
12. Evacuate

7

Cockpit/Cabin Fire or Smoke

Prepare to land immediately. Pax may be able to help extinguish fire given altitude. Keep cockpit windows closed unless smoke too strong. Turn on Sat tracker and ELT, mayday call.

*memory

8

Suspected Electrical Fire (Fumes)

Land as soon as possible. Make radio call if possible before shutting master off. Select all electrical switches off, Sat tracker on. If fuel pressure remains below 5 psi the engine will continue to run but not for climb or go around power.

9

Engine Failure Before T/O on Water

Power lever idle

Shut down drill

10

Engine Failure after T/O

Lower nose immediately for 85 mph, look for suitable landing area.

If time and alt:
1. Flaps as req'd
2. Idle, igniters, unstow

If time and alt insufficient:
1. Flaps as req'd
2. Power idle
3. Prop feather
4. Fuel off
5. Fuel emergency off
6. Ignition off
7. Boost pump off
8. P3 heat off
9. Communicate
10. Sat tracker/ELT
11. Master off

*memory

11

Engine Failure in Flight or inflight shut down

Lower nose for 100 mph, find landing area

If time and alt permit:
Idle, igniters unstow

If time and alt insufficient:
1. Flaps as req'd
2. Power idle
3. Prop feather
4. Fuel off
5. Fuel emergency off
6. Ignition
7. Boost pump off
8. P3 heat off
9. Communicate
10. Sat tracker/ELT
11. Master

12

Oil Pressure in Caution Range 40-85 psi

*Not memory

1. Power reduce
2. Oil pressure monitor

Find a place to land, assume it will fail

13

Oil Pressure Caution Light On

1. Oil Pressure Switch confirm on (MVP only?)

If oil pressure gauge below 40 psi land with min power, expect it to fail

*memory

14

Prop Over speed - persistent Np over 2200

QRH
1. Prop limit to 2420
2. Prop test switch on

If unable or reduce RPM
3. Power reduce, speed not below 1.3 x Vs (approx 90)
4. Increase load on prop if necessary
5. Land as soon as practical

*not memory

15

Gen Fail Warning Light On

QRH:
Overvoltage condition is sensed by the regulator

1. Volt/Load Meter confirm
2. Overvoltage switch confirm
3. Turn off all non essential electrical equipment
4. Land as soon as practical

Caution: Do not cycle the gen output switch or gen overvoltage switch as this can severely damage the generator and related components.

16

Fuel pressure warning light on

1. Boost pump 2 on
2. Boost pump 1 off

*memory

17

Double boost pump Failure

QRH:
1. Altitude descend below 8000

*If fuel pressure remains below 5 psi engine will continue to run in cruise but may not for climb or go around power
*fuel will not transfer - only available remaining fuel is whatever is in front tank
*not memory

18

Abnormal Pitch

1. Control column hold firmly
2. Trim wheel hold firmly

*memory
*use pax or seat belt to try to secure trim wheel
*Declare emergency

19

Duct overheat warning light on

Heating Duct Temp has increased above 177 C

1. Bleed Air off
2. Cabin Air full open
3. Defrost closed
4. Bleed air (after Caution light extinguishes) on

*memory

20

Chip detector Light

QRH:

On ground: do not proceed with flight. Observe all parameters and shut down.
In air steady: observe parameters, look for vibrations or anything else abnormal. If all looks ok continue and report. If other indications look for a place to land.

21

Comm Failure

QRH:

1. Troubleshoot
2. Emergency avionics switch on
3. Transponder 7600
4. When in controlled airspace maintain last cleared route, enter circuit, follow light signals.
5. When in uncontrolled airspace maintain clear of uncontrolled.
