He was given a land contract to settle 400 families is gonzales.After being attacked he moved near matagorda bay. After some trouble the colony was abandoned. Since he had only settled 166 families and not 400 he had to give the land back..

He was devoted to see things change in mexico. Served in gouverment and republican army. Put in prison twice for his political efforts. He was then given a contract to settle 500 families in texas. Then transfered contract to galveston and texas land company. He then apposed santa anna and then it was clear they were not going to follow mexican xonstution.
