What are the 2 types of Stroke?
Ischemic - A clot has occluded a vessel (thrombus, embolus) 85%
Hemorrhagic Stroke- Blood vessel in the brain has burst 15%
What is the LAPSS Scale?
No history of seizures or epilepsy
Age 40 years or older
At baseline, patient is not wheelchair bound or bedridden
Blood glucose between 60 and 400 mg/dL
Obvious asymmetry-unilateral weakness with any of the following motor exams:
Facial Smile/Grimace
Grip
Arm Strength
If all of the above criteria are met (or not ascertainable) the LAPSS is positive for stroke. Patients may still be experiencing a stroke even if LAPSS criteria are not me
What is Cushing’s Triad?
Hypertension
Bradycardia
Irregular Respirations
Late sign of hemorrhage in the brain
what is considered hypoglycemic?
Blood sugar level are abnormally low (>70)
What are the 3 Ps of hyperglycemia?
Polyphagia
Polyuria
Polydipsia
