coverings of the heart
Pericardium: double-walled sac that surrounds heart; made up of two layers
-Superficial fibrous pericardium: functions to protect, anchor heart to surrounding structures, and prevent overfilling
-Deep two-layered serous pericardium-
(Two layers separated by fluid-filled pericardial cavity (decreases friction)
1.) Parietal layer lines internal surface of fibrous pericardium
2.) Visceral layer (epicardium) on external surface of heart
layers of the heart wall
1.) Epicardium (On external surface of heart)
(visceral layer of serous pericardium, inside)
2.) myocardium -circular or spiral bundles of contractile cardiac muscle cells(pink)
3.)Endocardium (white)
layers of the heart wall Functions/Description
-helps keep heart in place, keeps heart from getting too big.
-Below this -
parietal layer of serous pericarduim
If a needle punctured the heart what structures would it pass through in order
1.)fibrous pericardium
2. Parietal layer, serous pericardium
3.)pericardial cavity
4.)Visceral layer, serous percardium
parts of heart names
parts of heart description
parts of heart and functions
major coronary arteries and veins
left coronary artery
-anterior interventricular artery
-Circumflex artery
Right Coronartery
what the major arteries do
what majore veins do
EKG waves NAMES and MEANINGS
P -start (atria contracting, sa node setted them off, molecular level depolarized souium in positive charge)
QRS-medium hill- big hill (ventricels contract)
T-small hill(ventricles relax,molecular sodium leave, polarize)
EKG MEANING
electrocardiogram. It is used to record the electrical activity of the heart from different angles to both identify and locate pathology.
Diastolic meaning
blood pressure is the bottom number and refers to the amount of pressure in the arteries while the heart is resting in between heartbeats.
systolic meaning
blood pressure is the top number and refers to the amount of pressure experienced by the arteries while the heart is beating.
Difference between Distolic and systolic
cardiac output
how many liters of blood your heart pumps in one minute.
stroke volume
is the volume of blood pumped out of the heart’s left ventricle during each systolic cardiac contraction. The average stroke volume of a 70 kg male is 70 mL.
regulation of heart
Bradycardia defination
meaning slow heart rate
Factors the affect heart rate
-ANS-systemic ^
-Thyroid horome ^
-baroreceptors ^
-chemicals-iona ca,na,meds
-Age
-Gender
-fitness
-Medulla,Hypothalmus,Cerebrum
factors that affect stroke volume
-pre load- streach ^
-contractillity- stimuls ^ (caffeince,coke,ecstasy)
-After load Down,( pressure in veins, preventing blood from escaping heart)
