endocrine system Flashcards
(15 cards)
where does ACTH (adrenocorticotropic hormone) come from and where does it go to
comes from anterior lobe and goes to adrenal cortex, then stimulates adrenal gland to make glucocorticoids, like cortisol
where does TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) come from and go to
comes from anterior pituitary gland, goes to thyroid gland which is then stimulated to release thyroid hormones (like T3 and T4)
where does GH (growth hormone) come from and go to
GH comes from the anterior pituitary gland and then goes to the liver, which is stimulated to release somatomedins, which then go to the bones, muscles, and other tissues.
where does PRL (prolactin) come from and go to
prolactin comes from the anterior pituitary gland and goes to the mammary glands, which are then stimulated to produce milk.
where does FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) and LH (luteinizing hormone) come from and go to?
both come from the anterior pituitary and go to the testes or ovaries. In the testes, they regulate the production of inhibin and testosterone. in ovaries they regulate the production of estrogen, progesterone, and inhibin.
where does MSH (melanocyte stimulating hormone) come from and go to
comes from intermediate lobe of pituitary and goes to melanocytes in skin, stimulating production of melanin.
what stimulates the adrenal gland to release epinephrine and norepinephrine?
the CNS
