Describe the endocrine system
Is made up of glands that produce and secrete hormones, chemical substances produced in the body that regulate the activity of cells or organs.
What is the pituitary gland?
the major endocrine gland, a pea-sized body attached to the base of the brain
What are the pituitary glands main functions?
to produce hormones into your bloodstream. important in controlling growth and development and the functioning of the other endocrine glands.
What is the hypothalamus?
a region of the fore brain below the thalamus
What are the hypothalamus’ main functions?
controls certain metabolic processes and other activities of the autonomic nervous system and of the pituitary. controlling body temperature, thirst, hunger, involved in sleep and emotional activity.
