19
Q

Summarise geothermal

A

water pumped into hot rocks underground produces steam to turn turbines

20
Q

Adv of geothermal

A

Reliable
Cost-effective
Little pollution

21
Q

Dis of geothermal

A

Not many suitable places are available

Doesn’t produce energy on a large scale

22
Q

Laws of conservation of energy

A

Energy cannot be made or destroyed

Energy can be only transferred or transformed

23
Q

Nuclear powerplant advantage

A

Reliable

Produces energy on a large scale

24
Q

Summarise nuclear power plant

A

Nuclear fuel is reacted, producing heat which creates steam.

25
Dis of nuclear fuel
Expensive | Produces dangerous radioactive waste.
26
Summarise energy from fossil fuels
Burning fuels produce heat, which can be used to turn water into steam, to turn turbines
27
Adv of fossil fuels
Reliable Produces energy on a large scale Cost-effective
28
Dis of fossil fuels
Produces greenhouse gases and pollution.
29
Name three types of energy that don't come from the sun, and state its source.
Geothermal- From the heat produced in the Earths core Nuclear- Elements that make up a small proportion of the earth Tidal- From the gravitational attraction of the moon
30
How does the sun produce its energy?
Through nuclear fusion- collision, and bonding of hydrogen nuclei to form helium nuclei, and releasing nuclear energy in the process.
