Q

How do the moon and earth stay in orbit?

A

The two bodies are attracting each other
The moon is within the Earth’s gravitational field
The force from moon on earth is the same as the force from earth on the moon. However it is in opposite directions

10
Q

What is the field in magnets?

A

Attract objects and attract or repel other magnets

Space around a magnet is where it affects other materials = magnetic field

Q

How do you draw a scale diagram (parallelogram)?

A

Draw arrows at correct angles to represent the forces acting on object.
The length of each arrow represents the size of the force.
Draw lines from the top of these force lines, to make a parallelogram.
A lime straight across the middle from the two middle points of the parallelogram is the resultant force.

How do you draw a scan diagram (square)?

A

Draw a five arrow sack at correct angle diagonally
Draw a rectangle
The x axis and y axis are your resolved forces

16
Q

What is a turning force?

A

Moment

17
Q

What is the units of moment?

A

Newton metres (Nm)

18
Q

What is is called when something is in balance?

A

Equilibrium

19
Q

What is the equation when rotational forces are in equilibrium ?

A

Sum of clockwise movements = sum of anti-clockwise movements

20
Q

What can the rotational effect of a force also be transmitted by?

A

Gears

E.g. Gear 1 is driven by a water wheel. The rotation is passed on to gear 2 by interlocking teeth which drive the milling stones e.t.c
