1
Q

8 types of energy store

A
Gravitational potential energy
Elastic potential energy
Thermal energy
Chemical energy
Electro static energy
Nuclear energy
Kinetic energy
Magnetic energy
2
Q

What temperature is called absolute zero?

A

-273 degrees celsius

3
Q

Gravitational potential energy

A

Anything being pulled down by gravity

4
Q

Elastic potential energy

A

Anything stretched or compressed

Eg. Archery or Trampolining

5
Q

Thermal energy

A

Energy caused by the movement of particles
Anything warmer than -273 degrees has thermal energy
Electrons move from heat

6
Q

Chemical energy

A

Stored in the bonds between atoms
Usually released by chemical reactions
Food converts it’s internal energy into energy we need for respiration.

7
Q

Electro static energy

A

Electric charges that attract or repel each other

8
Q

Nuclear energy

A

Stored in the bonds that hold nucleus of atoms together

9
Q

Kinetic energy

A

Anything moving that has energy

10
Q

Magnetic Energy

A

When a magnetic force wants to pull or push something

11
Q

What is transferring energy

A

Moving energy from one store to another

12
Q

Can energy be created or destroyed

A

No

13
Q

Transferring energy by heat

A
Energy is transferred from the hotter object to the cooler one
Often done by:
burning chemicals
electricity
microwaves
Infra Red
14
Q

Transferring energy mechanically

A

Transferred by the forces

15
Q

Transferring energy electrically

A

Energy is transferred when an electrical circuit is complete.

16
Q

Transferring energy by radiation

A

Visible light, microwaves and radio waves are forms of radiation. They are carried by waves (NOT mechanical waves).
Electric lamps and burning fuels transfer visible light to the surroundings.

17
Q

What is Power?

A

The rate of transferring energy
Or how much energy is transferred per second
It’s measured in J/s or in W

18
Q

Formula for power

A
Power =  energy transferred (J)
                 —————————-
                        Time taken (s)
19
Q

What is efficiency?

A

The percentage of energy transferred that is useful.

20
Q

Formula for efficiency

A

Efficiency = Useful energy output
—————————- X 100
Total energy input

21
Q

What is the conservation of energy principle?

A

Energy cannot be created or destroyed only conserved/ transformed into another type of energy
