how are fossil fuels formed?

A

Millions of years ago, plants photosynthesised and stored the suns energy. plants fell into swampy water and prevented them from rotting away. over the years, the mud grew taller and squashed the plants. After more millions of years, the mud became rock and the dead plants became coal.
