Energy and electricity Flashcards
(24 cards)
Types of fuels
fuels come in liquid gas solid forms
Fuels you use depend on
what is there the cost what its used for
what is current measured in
amps
What are ammeters
Ammeters must be connected in series in a circuit so they can measure how much current passes through them
What is a electrical conductor
a material that allows current to pass through is a electrical conductor
What is a non-electrical conductor
a material that does not is called a electrical insulator
What are 2 types of circuits
series- all the components are connected in s complete loop
parallel- have more than one loop
What is current
the electricty passing through the circuit
What does branching off mean
It means that itt wont go onto anther loop or direction or path
What would happen if anther light bulb is added to a circuit
It would become dimmer as the electrical current has to supply more than one bulb
why wont a circuit work if 1 component is taken out
Because the circuit would be incomplete
What does component mean
A cell or piece of electrical equipment
If you see a letter āIā at a circuit diagram what does that mean
It mean that the current
Is the current all the same at every point in a series circuit
Yes
What is the equation of a series circuits current
I (1) = I (2) = I (3)
What is a resistance
How much a component can take in in terms of current
What is a voltmeter
A voltmeter is a device that measures the energy transferred by a component.
What does kinetic energy mean
all the objects are moving
What does Electrical energy mean
in the transfer in an electric circuit
What does potential energy mean
Something has the ability to do something
What does gravitational potential energy mean
When something is raised above the ground a shelf
What does a sankey diagram look like and what does it show
It is basically a diagram with 2 arrows and one arrow shows the useful energy and the other wasted energy
What does elastic potential energy mean
When it is stretched it then contains a store of energy.
What does thermal energy mean
Heat energy
