Energy Profile Diagrams Flashcards
(7 cards)
what is activation energy?
minimum amount of energy required to break reactant bonds
Small activation energy …
less energy required.
Larger activation energy…
more energy required
for endothermic reactions the enthalpy will always be…
positive because the reaction is using heat energy.
For exothermic reactions the enthalpy will always be …
negative because the reaction is producing heat energy.
how to idientify if the energy profile diagram is showing an exo or endo thermic reaction?
if the reactants are higher than the prodcuts (so the dip is going down) ; exothermic
if the reactanst are lower than the products (so the dip is going up) ; endothermic
how to calculate the activation energy?
u take the number of the highest point in the dip and subtract it by the reactant number
