Energy Systems Flashcards
(8 cards)
What does ATP stand for
Adenosine Triphosphate
What is ATP
ATP is what gives your muscles energy. There is enough stored at the muscles for one muscle contraction.
How is ATP produced
ATP must be constantly rebuilt/ replenished. It can be re synthesized by energy fuels like phosphocreatine, carbohydrates, fats and proteins

___
|A| - (p)-(p)-(p)
___
|A| - (p)-(p)-/-(p) (breaks off for one muscle contraction)
___
|A| - (p)-(p) (Pi) (inorganic phosphate)
___
|A| - (p)-(p)-(p) (Rebuilt using fuels e.g. CHO)
What are the four fuels
Phosphocreatine
Carbohydrates
Fats
Proteins
CHO
Carbohydrates are found in
Blood- glucose
Muscles- glycogen
Excess- liver adipose tissue
Fats
Lipids are found in
Blood- fatty acid
Muscles- triglycerides
Excess- adipose tissue
Protein
Protein is found in
Blood- amino acids
Muscles- amino acids
Excess adipose tissue
