16
Q

Equation for Extension

A

Force (N) = Spring Constant (N/M) * Extension (m)

17
Q

What is the Spring Constant?

A

Measure of the stiffness of a spring up to its Limit of Proportionality or Elastic Limit
The higher the Spring Constant, the stiffer the spring

18
Q

What is the Limit of Proportionality?

A

Refers to the point beyond which an object cannot return to its original state - Hooke’s Law no longer applies

19
Q

Specific Heat Capacity

A

The energy required to raise the temperature of 1Kg of a substance by 1C
C(J/KgC)

20
Q

Specific Heat Capacity Equation

A

C = Energy (J) / Mass * Temperature Change

21
Q

Design a method for an experiment with an aim to measure specific heat capacity of a metal

A
  1. Place the immersion heater into the slot at the top of the metal block
  2. Put the thermometer into the smaller slot
  3. Insulate the block by wrapping it with wool
  4. Record the stating temperature of the block
  5. Connect the heater to the power supply and turn it off after ten minutes
  6. Record the ending temperature then calculate the temperature change
  7. Repeat with different layers and different types of insulation
22
Q

Energy Transfer Equation

A

Energy Transfer = Potential Difference * Current * Time
E = VIt

23
Q

Work Done Equation

A

Work Done = Force * Distance

24
Q

Work Done Equation when lifting

A

Work Done = Weight * Height

25
Q

What is Power?

A

Power is the rate of work being done or rate of energy transferred

26
Q

Power Equation

A

Power = Work Done / Time Taken
or
Power = Energy Transferred / Time

27
Q

Gravitational Potential Energy Equation

A

Gravitational Potential Energy = Mass * Gravitational Field Strength * Change in Height
