Engine Co. Tools/Hose Rolling Flashcards
(28 cards)
1 3/4 fog nozzle
1 3/4 nozzle w/ 1 3/4 hose 1 1/2 coupling & fog tip 100psi@tip-200gpm-reaction 101lbs Straight stream right Fog pattern-left
Fog nozzles
Straight stream-hollow
Fog pattern- adj. outer barrel wider pattern = shorter distance
Removable fog tips may have fixed fog pattern
Effective for max hydraulic vent. Dispersing gas & fire near electrical equipment
Fog nozzles are variable flow/pressure
Solid stream
Smooth bore
Solid straight stream of water
High volume @ low pressure
Long stream superior penetration manageable nozzle reaction

2” nozzle
2” nozzle w/ 2” lightweight hose 2 1/2” coupling with 1” MST for attack 50psi-210gpm-77lbs pressure 55psi-220gpm-85lbs pressure 1/2” OST for overhaul
MST\OST
Mst- attach to shut off, threaded outlet orifice, attack fires
Ost- smaller, attach to orifice of mst, 1/2” tip for overhaul operations
1 3/4” hose
Primary attack 50ft long 1 1/2” coupling 250psi Friction loss 20psi per 50ft
2 1/2 hose
Attack/supply 50ft long 2 1/2 coupling 250psi Friction loss 5psi per 50ft
2” poly hose
Green w/ white stripes Lead nozzle on attack line w/ residential standpipe 50ft long 2 1/2 coupling 250psi Friction loss 10psi per length Mid point red (a fold) Arrows on female coupling indicates towards water supply
2 1/2 poly hose
White w/red stripes Attack line using standpipe 50ft long 2 1/2 coupling 250psi Friction loss is 50psi per length Midpoint red (a fold) Arrows in female coupling toward water source
3 1/2 hose
Supply line 50ft long 3” coupling 300psi 3psi friction loss
2 1/2 fog nozzle
2 1/2” fog nozzle w/ 2 1/2 hose 2 1/2 coupling 100psi-250gpm-reaction 121lbs Straight stream -right Fog pattern- left
Hose removal
Repacking
Out of service
Removed/repacked spring&fall 10yrs+ out of service First 2digits of serial# on female coup. Indicates year made Female couplings have rubber washer Out of service- RT3 form, attach to hose Replacement- fire tools & equipment
Rolled hose
Lay hose out then fold back on itself
Lay male coupling 3ft from female
Roll @ folded end
Single roll- out of service, male coupling inside, over hand not 3” from female
Roll ups
Fold hose in half so nozzle tip eve w/ female coup.
Midpoint fold to coupling
Fold up the coupling over midpoint
Lift couplings then fold
Male coupling on right
A fold- painted red, midpoint beneath couplings
Horseshoe
Comprised of 1 length of hose 4ft long
Midpoint of horseshoe by grabbing middle ring
Hose bed
Load hose from left to right w/ coupling extended beyond hosebed
Straight back then forwards towards right
When finished fold hose @ rear right, bring forward diagonally to front left
Hose packing
1 bed of 3 1/2” hose
1 bed of 2 1/2 hose
2 beds w/ lead lengths of 1 3/4 hose coupled to 2 1/2 hose to finish load
No more than 6 lengths of 1 3/4 hose shall be used as lead length
Hose requirments
20 lengths of 1 3/4
1 length of 2” poly w/ 2” nozzle and 1” mst
3 lengths of 2 1/2 poly in roll up w/ 2 1/2 nozzle and 1 1/8 mst
3 lengths of 2 1/2 poly (5 FFs carry 4)
30 lengths of 2 1/2” and 10 3 1/2 hose
Apparatus hose requirments
1 length of 2” poly roll up w/ 2” nozzle
3 lengths of 2 1/2” poly toll up , 1 length with 2 1/2” nozzle
5 FFs 1 additional length of 2 1/2 roll up
4 lengths of 1 3/4 hose rolled/roll up 1 length w/ 1 1/34 nozzle
Hose strap
Secure hoseline that is stretched vertically, used for well-hole, fire escaped & rope stretch
Rope hose hook- one end metal hook other loop in rope
Nylon carabiner- one end carabiner other loop in nylon strap, # of smaller loops on strap not used
Looped end of hose strap secured by girth hitch
Ideal location below coupling
Spanner wrench
Tighten/loosen couplings
Flip open spanner- carried in bunker coat pocket
Straight spanner- carried on apparatus
Digital inline gauge
Monitors pressure & flow from stand pipe
Does not regulate water flow
