Q

What are the four mandatory actions for fire on the exterior extending into the dwelling?

A

The first hoseline is deployed to the fire location on the exterior of the structure to perform a quick knockdown of the fire and a sweeping fashion. This tactic may force fire and the products of combustion into the dwelling towards the occupants if you flow the fire stream into the burning structure

Once the first hose line is in place and operating effectively, the second line should be deployed to the interior of the dwelling. This crew must inspect the ceiling area and the floor conditions at the point of entry. This line will extinguish any fire within the dwelling and protect the occupants and the companies operating on the interior

Once the fire is not down on the exterior of the dwelling the hoseline may be redeployed to the interior to assist the interior line or progress to upper floors to attack any fire

The coordination and tactics and operations between the first engine and the special service units or additional engine companies must be completed before the special service units can enter the building

15
Q

When advanced fire conditions are encountered and a exterior entrance is not present the fire should be knocked down from the outside of the basement in which ways?

A

Fire stream into the basement through a window

Removing the band board

Extend a window cut down on additional foot or two

Use a bresnan distributor nozzle

16
Q

What must be in place if the officer decides to use the interior stairs to attack a basement fire

A

A second Hanline must be in place and ready before attack begins

17
Q

During a basement fire in a townhouse personnel should remove what to aid in the movement of hose lines?

A

Doors

18
Q

During a garage fire when the initial line is advancer the overhead door what needs to be checked?

A

The status of the door leading to the living area

19
Q

When attacking a garage fire from the exterior what must be advanced through the house?

A

A hoseline to the interior garage door to prevent extension

20
Q

If the officer decides to attack the garage fire through the living area of the structure what needs to be in place?

A

The second line should be advanced to back up the first or to proceed to the floors above

21
Q

During an attic fire what can be used to slow the lateral spread of fire?

A

Early roof ventilation

22
Q

What is the most effect of method for attacking and attic fire?

A

Gaining access and placing a hose line at the level of the fire in the attic

23
Q

How many attack lines is usually sufficient to handle a cockloft fire?

A

1

24
Q

What windspeeds can cause when driven fires?

A

10-20mph

25
Q

What five conditions must exist for a wind driven fire to occur?

A

Fire in the structure

Failed or open window to the outside in the fire area

Presence of wind on the exterior of the structure

Failed or open door to the living area

Hey on obstructed path to an outlet for the fire to vent

26
Q

To aid in size up of a wind driven fire personnel should be aware of the following items?

A

Presence and wind direction

Failure of windows to the area of the fire

Lack of smoke and flames and intermittent smoke or flames pushing from the failed window

Presence of a large volume of fire within the fire area

27
Q

During large volume fires it may be necessary for the first engine to perform a holding action or a quick knocked down on the townhouse of origin by using a master stream or a 2 1/2 inch hose line. Where should the next line be stretched?

A

Into the most severely threatened exposure most likely downwind

28
Q

What areas need to be checked in the exposures?

A

All floors

Attic

Basement

29
Q

If there is any indication of fire spread in a exposure what should be done

A

Advance a hose line
